Azamati’s qualification to World Athletics Championships will give him ample time prepare – Coach Elorm Amenakpor

Sprint coach Elorm Amenakpor says the respite that came with Ghana’s fastest 100m record holder, Benjamin Azamati,  qualifying for the World Athletics Championship will help the Ghanian fine-tune ahead of the competition.

Azamati finished in the semi finals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, after strong performances in the hearts.

Since then, the Ghanaian has tweaked a number of things in his immediate surroundings, including his coaches and residence.

Azamati, now training under the guidance of renowned Athletics coach John Bolton, has taken off like a rocket this season.

The relocation to California has also yielded fruits with evident, instant results.

In the ongoing outdoor season, Azamati has managed to impress, lowering his times in every outing.

Azamati’s impressive times have seen him ran 10.12s, 10.07s, 10.02s, 9.93s and 9.98s.

His latest finish, 9.98s, is the pick of the bunch as it punched Azamati’s ticket to the World Championships in Tokyo.

“Ben has put in a lot of work this season. When you look at his trajectory, outdoor season stats, he keeps improving race after race,” coach Elorm Amenakpor told 3Sports.

“Running that time yesterday will give him some kind of relief because he booked qualification, which is giving him more room to prepare ahead of the Championship that is in September. Every athlete wants to have that early qualification,” he added.

Azamati’s 9.98s finish at the McNab Sprint Series on Thursday has set the precedent for a big season.
