The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested four individuals in a coordinated anti-drug operation at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), disrupting an attempt to smuggle cannabis out of Ghana.
The arrests, which took place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, followed intelligence-driven profiling efforts conducted by NACOC operatives stationed at the airport.
In a statement issued by Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, NACOC confirmed that 23-year-old British national Jada Chyna Brown-Frater was intercepted during routine screening prior to boarding British Airways flight BA 2066 to Gatwick, United Kingdom. A search of her luggage revealed 32 slabs of cannabis weighing 17.72 kilogrammes. She was taken into custody and will face prosecution.
Later that same day, another British national, 19-year-old Christian Williams Owusu, was arrested shortly after arriving on Emirates Flight EK 787 from Dubai. Security officials discovered 92 slabs of cannabis packed into two suitcases, amounting to 53.60 kilogrammes.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two more suspects believed to have assisted Owusu in the attempted smuggling effort. All four individuals are currently in detention, and NACOC has confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the operation.
Mr. Amoah emphasized the Commission’s unwavering resolve to combat drug trafficking, stating that NACOC will continue to strengthen its intelligence networks and maintain heightened vigilance at the country’s borders and ports of entry.
He assured the public that NACOC remains fully committed to protecting Ghana from the growing threat of narcotics smuggling.
