Yusif Abdulai Korley, the Imam of the Kasseh Central Mosque in Ada East District, has said that some individuals who identify as Muslims but act in ways contrary to Islamic teachings are considered enemies of Allah.

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the Eid-al-Adha celebrations, Imam Korley emphasised that the Qur’an condemns actions that promote violence and bloodshed, describing such individuals as “murderers of the world.”

“These are people who bear Muslim names but live contrary to the values and commandments set by Allah,” he noted, adding that “Islam means peace, and anyone who promotes conflict, riot, or war is an enemy of the religion.”

He further explained that the celebration of Eid-al-Adha was not merely for merrymaking but a time for deep reflection on the importance of sacrifice, based on the covenant Prophet Ibrahim had with Allah.

Imam Korley also expressed concern that many Muslims do not fully understand the principles of Islam and therefore urged them to be faithful to reflect on the true meaning of the religion and abide by its teachings.

“The Qur’an forbids actions that lead to the shedding of innocent blood,” he said, adding that those who commit such acts should not be allowed to mingle with fellow Muslims.

Yakubu Sulemana, spokesperson for the Muslim community in Kasseh, also voiced concerns about the increasing involvement of Muslim youth in social vices, including theft, armed robbery, and substance abuse, particularly the rising use of opioids.

“These acts are clearly prohibited by the Holy Qur’an, and it is disheartening to see young Muslims indulging in them,” he said.

He added that Muslims were often under scrutiny, likening them to “a white cloth” that easily shows stains when soiled.

“When a Muslim commits an offence, it becomes visible to the entire world. But when we do good, it often goes unnoticed,” he remarked.

Sulemana called on Muslim youth across the country to take the study of the Qur’an and Hadith seriously to guide their lives and actions in a way that pleases Allah.
