You criticize government for not keeping promises yet you fail yours — Ayariga slams Afenyo-Markin

Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has criticised Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for failing to honour promises he made to Parliament, despite constantly accusing government officials of doing the same.

According to Mr. Ayariga, the Effutu MP cannot be taken seriously in the House if he continues to make public commitments but fails to follow through.

He accused the Minority Leader of dishonesty for promising to lead his caucus to sleep at the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in protest over the detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako — a promise that was not fulfilled.

“When we make promises, let’s keep them. Mr. Speaker, when he promised to sleep at EOCO… the man talking about people not fulfilling promises. You promised to sleep at EOCO and left at 10 p.m.,” Mr. Ayariga said on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, June 3.

The Bawku Central MP also reminded the House that Afenyo-Markin had earlier assured them in February that he would speak to the former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and ensure his return to face OSP investigations over alleged criminal offences.

“He promised this House that he would bring Ken Ofori-Atta in May. We are in June, yet he has not produced him. Mr. Speaker, he should no longer be taken seriously in this House. When he makes promises, he does not fulfil them,” he stated.

This follows a declaration of Ken Ofori-Atta as a wanted fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, made the announcement during a press conference on Monday, June 2, citing Mr. Ofori-Atta’s failure to meet the June 2 deadline.
