ECG to embark on preventive maintenance to strengthen power reliability in Ashanti region‎

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to embark on a maintenance drive across the Ashanti Region this month to reinforce power distribution and uninterrupted power supply.

Spearheaded by the Ashanti Sub-Transmission team, the planned maintenance is aimed at key primary substations that serve thousands of residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

The ECG hopes to address concerns over power reliability as it works around the clock to reduce outages, lower operational costs, and fortify supply reliability through the upcoming maintenance.

Manager of the Substations and Switchgear Maintenance, Ing. Edem Agra, who underscored the significance of the scheduled exercise, said the move forms part of the annual maintenance plan of ECG.

“This prioritises proactive system care over reactive interventions. Our goal is to ensure long-term asset health, minimise system downtime, and ultimately give our customers the consistent power supply they deserve,” he said.

Between June 12 and June 27, the company will upgrade and clean critical switchgear and transformers at Kaase Main D, KTI Main G and Fawode Main W substations.

Residents in affected areas are expected to experience brief outages as engineers complete maintenance tasks around the clock to restore power.

General Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. Peter K. Fletcher, highlighted the broader impact of the maintenance.

‎“This is more than wires and transformers. It’s a promise to our customers—to prevent outages before they happen, reduce system strain, and ensure a more robust power network that supports homes, industries, and businesses alike,” he stated.

With this initiative, ECG continues to invest in a resilient, future-ready energy grid to meet growing demand while minimising disruptions.

“We maintain it today to prevent the outage tomorrow. We will ensure long-term asset health and reliable service for every customer,” says Collins Manu, Head of Public Relations, Ashanti Sub-Transmission.
