Omanhene sponsors NHIS enrollment for over 600 aged in Gomoa Benso

A few weeks after promising to enhance healthcare access for the elderly in Gomoa Benso, within the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region, the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, has fulfilled his pledge by sponsoring the enrollment of over 600 people into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The initiative covered both renewals and new registrations of NHIS membership cards, providing beneficiaries with the means to access healthcare facilities without financial barriers whenever they require medical attention.

Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI explained that many elderly individuals in the area are unable to seek medical care due to financial hardship and lack of family support.

“We should ensure the well-being of the aged in our various communities to live longer than expected. The Aged are our source of inspiration.

“We consult with them for decision making, both physically, mentally and spiritually so we ought to make everything possible to make life easier and meaningful for them.

“It is sad that we sometimes leave the aged to live in poverty and die in miserable lives before we organise expensive funerals just to show off to the public that we really cared for the elderly,” he stated.

He reiterated his dedication to supporting the elderly in all aspects of life, especially within the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area and the Central Region at large.

The Queen Mother of Gomoa Benso, Nana Adjoa Aduokua III, praised the Omanhene for his continued contributions toward the development of the area.

She said the initiative had breathed new life into the elderly and described Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI as a development-oriented traditional leader whose actions should inspire other paramount chiefs across the country.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Obaatan of Gomoa Benso, Nana Ayera Omansu III, said the NHIS registration had eased the financial burden on traditional leaders who often had to support the elderly with healthcare expenses.

“Am extremely happy about today’s exercise and wish to express my gratitude to Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI whose reign as Omanhene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area is second to none,” she emphasised.
