The Sogakofe Police Command has commenced its investigation into what led to the tragic death of 10 passengers on board a white Ford Transit commercial vehicle with registration number VD 468-22.

The fatal accident happened near the St Catherine SHS stretch on the Sogakofe-Akatsi Highway, Volta Region.

The Thursday evening, May 29, 2025, tragedy left other passengers injured, who were rushed to the Sogakofe Government Hospital for treatment.

Speaking to the media, Divisional Officer Grade III Saviour Coffie, the Akatsi South Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), described the incident as unfortunate, considering the impact of damage and deaths.

“We had to pull out the driver and two other passengers who died on the spot, together with other passengers,” he narrated.

Information gathered by Class News revealed that the driver of the Ford vehicle, who was heading towards Akatsi, tried to overtake some vehicles in his lane, during which he lost control and unfortunately ran into a moving tipper truck resulting in the tragic accident.

Nine passengers, including a female, died on the spot. Another passed away Friday morning while receiving medical attention at Sogakofe Government Hospital.

An eyewitness said the driver of the Ford vehicle, popularly known as Inno, an Akatsi-based driver, allegedly engaged in unnecessary overtaking.
