Esha Maiwalle’s Foundation holds skills acquisition program to empower young girls in Bauchi State

A new philanthropic initiative taking shape in Bauchi State, Nigeria, could serve as a transformative model for empowering young women and improving their socio-economic standing.

The program is designed not only to elevate living standards but also to enhance the contributions of young women to local and national development.

The initiative is being championed by Esha Maiwalle’s Foundation, led by Founder and Director-General Aisha Muhammad Maiwalle. “As women achieve power, the barriers will fall. As society sees what women can do, as women see what women can do, there will be more women out there doing things, and we’ll all be better off for it,” she said.

This forward-thinking program focuses on technical skills training, improved sanitation and hygiene, and comprehensive life strategies to help young women transition confidently into adulthood. It targets essential areas often overlooked in mainstream empowerment projects.

The foundation has set out several key objectives:

Equip young girls with practical life skills and strategies for self-preservation.

Encourage youth participation in leadership, cultural awareness, and community development.

Promote intellectual engagement and creative problem-solving.

The initiative’s core areas of focus include:

Personal safety and mental health resilience to support emotional well-being.

Financial literacy and entrepreneurship to foster financial independence and business acumen.

Goal-setting and decision-making to cultivate a strong sense of purpose.

Leadership development and civic responsibility to build active citizenship.

Digital literacy and online safety to guard against cyber threats while enhancing tech skills.

Public speaking and communication to improve confidence and articulation.

First aid and emergency response to provide essential life-saving knowledge.

To ensure wide reach and institutional support, the foundation is in the process of obtaining an official Letter of Endorsement from the Bauchi State Government. This endorsement will enable access to schools, religious centers, and community institutions. The initiative also plans to partner with private sector actors, philanthropists, and government agencies for resources and logistical support.

The potential impact is significant. By providing young women with practical tools for empowerment, the program is expected to leave a lasting mark on youth development in Bauchi State and beyond. Its private-public partnership model offers a replicable blueprint for similar efforts across Nigeria.

Through this effort, the Esha Maiwalle Foundation aims to cultivate a generation of young women who are not only self-reliant but also socially conscious and prepared to lead. “Empowering women is not just a moral imperative, but also a powerful tool for achieving global progress in areas like poverty reduction, economic growth, and improved health outcomes for all,” Maiwalle noted.

With committed backing from government, corporate entities, and the philanthropic community, the initiative could unlock the potential of young women to make meaningful contributions in their communities—and shape the future of Nigeria and the African continent.
