The Ashanti Regional Mortuary Workers Association has threatened to sue anyone who accuses their members of sleeping with corpses in their custody.

The Chairman of the Association, Mr. Ebenezer Toku-Amankwa, described such allegations as baseless and unfounded.

He has therefore dared anyone with evidence to support such allegations to present it or stop defaming and tarnishing their image.

He warned that they would be forced to take legal action against those who make such baseless claims, especially bloggers who publish such stories without any shred of evidence.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, he denied the allegations, stating, “These are bitter lies thrown at mortuary workers to tarnish our image and damage our reputation. These allegations, without any shred of evidence, are aimed at tarnishing the image of the profession, and we are advising those behind them, especially bloggers, to stop or face legal action.”

He added, “These allegations have been made for years, but no one has been able to provide proof. We are serious about this. We are noble professionals with families. We can no longer tolerate defamatory remarks, and those who make them should be warned to stop or face legal action.”

He expressed concern that mortuary workers in Ghana are not treated with dignity and are regarded as nobodies, saying, “But we will not allow people to disrespect us again. We have wives and children, and we deserve respect from Ghanaians. We investigated this issue, but no one was able to provide proof, so we have encouraged those who do have evidence to present it to us, or the false claims must stop.”
