Fake herbalist busted in Ashanti Region for international fraud scheme

A 25-year-old man, Emmanuel Boateng, has been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command for allegedly posing as a traditional herbalist and defrauding clients under the guise of being the CEO of Nana Kofi Herbal.

The suspect, currently unemployed, was picked up in Amangoase, a suburb of Nsuta, following reports of impersonation and deceitful advertising.

According to police investigations, Boateng is said to have exploited social media platforms by downloading authentic promotional videos made by the legitimate Nana Kofi Herbal Centre. He then doctored the content by replacing the genuine contact information with his personal numbers, redirecting inquiries and payments from unsuspecting clients.

“Through this scheme, he lured victims seeking herbal treatment and collected money under false pretences,” explained DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, during a media briefing.

Authorities say the scam wasn’t limited to Ghana. Preliminary findings suggest that Boateng’s deceptive operations reached international victims, with individuals from the United Kingdom, Germany, and France reportedly defrauded by the same tactics.

The Police Command has since issued a caution to the public to exercise greater scrutiny when dealing with online service providers, especially those claiming affiliation with reputable brands or individuals.

DSP Ahianyo advised potential clients to always verify contact numbers before making payments and to “promptly report any suspicious activity to the police.”

Investigations are still underway, and law enforcement has assured the public that steps are being taken to ensure justice is delivered to both local and foreign victims.
