The 7th edition of the annual Luv FM High Schools Debate kicked off at the Christian Service University in Kumasi with intense arguments and impressive performances from participating schools.

20 Senior High Schools from across the Ashanti Region have qualified to take part in the competition, which promises weeks of intellectual engagement and public speaking excellence.

Day one featured two highly competitive debate fixtures.

In the first contest, St. Louis Girls Senior High School faced off against Okomfo Anokye Senior High School on the motion: “Online learning platforms are more effective than traditional classroom learning”.

Okomfo Anokye argued for the motion, while St. Louis opposed it.

At the end of the contest, St. Louis emerged victorious with 245 points (53.93%) against Okomfo Anokye’s 201 points (46.07).

The second debate saw fierce debaters from Oppong Memorial Senior High School and Asanteman Senior High School debating the motion: “The recent appreciation of the cedi is a nine-day wonder”.

Oppong Memorial, speaking for the motion, won with 241 points (53.79%) against Asanteman SHS, who scored 207 points (46.21%).

“We are ladies from St. Louis, and no competition is tough but we don’t brag, we only show the action. We are pacesetters and we set the pace today,” a participant said.

“This is our first time and I will say my ladies did their best but it was not enough so we will come back better next time. I believe we will do our best next year,” a teacher from Okomfo Anokye SHS said.

The major sponsors of the competition are Jackson University College, Yazz, H&H 4-in-1 Gari Mix, Ecobank Ghana, Zwan, Bonvas Tours and Christian Service University.

Others are St. Ben Jewellery, Dunamist Plast, A.B.A. Herbal Centre, Tradewinds Chemist, Wo Maame Shito, Family Products from Gredee Enterprise, Otuasekan Rural Bank, Robert and Sons Ltd. Optical Services, Best Brain Publications Ltd, Gimpa Kumasi Campus, Amanano Rural Bank PLC Ltd, New Generation Investment Services (NGIS), Royal Mental Arithmetic System (Royalmas), Daksa Dental Clinic, Eselali Empire, Premium Foods, Ultimate Fashion, Flora Tissues and Palm University.

The Luv FM High Schools Debate airs on the Joy Learning Platform on MultiTV, Luv FM and social media platforms.
