Ignatius Godfred Dodoe (M) was confirmed as Shai Osudoku DCE with unanimous endorsement Ignatius Godfred Dodoe (M) was confirmed as Shai Osudoku DCE with unanimous endorsement

The DCE nominee for Shai Osudoku in the Greater Accra Region was second time lucky on Friday, May 23, 2025, after he was unanimously confirmed as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area following a Special General Assembly Meeting.

After failing to garner the required quorum for his successful confirmation on Monday, May 05 with 17 yes votes and 15 no votes, Ignatius Godfred Dodoe in the second round of voting on Friday, May 23, secured all 16 valid votes cast, representing 100% endorsement by all the Assembly Members present.

The result surpassed the two-thirds majority required under Section 20 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

The election, conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), saw 16 out of the 32 Assembly members, including 22 elected members and 10 government appointees, showing up on the day to participate in the exercise.

At the end of voting, the nominee obtained 16 yes votes and zero no votes to secure a 100% endorsement from the valid votes cast.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, who supervised the voting process, commended the Assembly Members for their unity and called on them to continue upholding their constitutional duties.

She expressed her gratitude to the members for turning up to ensure that the exercise ended up a success and urged them to prioritize the responsibilities entrusted to them.

“On Monday, we’ll meet all the MDCEs and task them with their responsibilities; they’ll be tasked with the street lighting project that we’ve begun,” she said and assured them of her fervent support.

The minister described the confirmation exercises in the Greater Accra Region as successful, with 28 out of the 29 MDAs successfully confirming their nominees.

Detailing his vision for the district under his tenure, Ignatius Godfred Dodoe, a four-term former Assembly member, said he would champion road construction, which remains a major vision of President John Mahama. “One of the biggest things I want to do is to focus on the construction of roads, we have about 300 km of roads, only 9km is tarred and that is quite disappointing,” said the new Assembly chief, adding that good roads open up the agrarian and other sectors for effective and accelerated development.

He also identified chieftaincy disputes as another area of concern, emphasising his resolve to engage the government and all relevant stakeholders to address the challenge.

Aside from these, the DCE says job creation and youth employment remain another priority area and expressed confidence in the president’s job creation initiatives to address the challenge.

Dodoe expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the appointment and pledged to work tirelessly to deliver development for the people of Shai Osudoku.
