NPP’s immediate focus is rebuilding, not flagbearer elections — Miracles Aboagye

The 2024 Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has described as premature and unwarranted the ongoing conversations around the party’s next flagbearer elections.

According to him, the NPP’s immediate focus following its defeat in the 2024 general elections is to rebuild the party and pursue constitutional reforms.

Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews’ The Pulse on Thursday, June 12, Miracles urged party members and supporters not to be distracted by internal contests but to focus on supporting the rebuilding efforts.

“I think it’s unwarranted and premature. We have our plan. We have our calendar as a party. Right now, we are working towards consistent reform and then working towards a conference in July. When it’s time for presidential primaries, we will come out, and every form of debate will be held,” he said.

JoyNews had scheduled a debate between Miracles Aboagye, representing former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Kwasi Kwarteng, who represented NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The debate, titled “NPP’s Second Chance Debate: Who deserves a second shot, and why does it matter?” was intended to discuss who should lead the main opposition party into the 2028 elections.

But Miracles, who denied prior knowledge of the program, said JoyNews and other media houses should rather focus their airtime on pressing national issues such as the ongoing strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.

“Why would you spend this precious airtime that we have from Multimedia, when we can be discussing the nurses who are on strike?” he asked.
