A routine Sunday morning turned tragic in New Site, Effia-Kwesimintsim, after a popular local barber, James Opoku—known to many as Nana Yaw—was found dead inside his locked barbershop.

The heartbreaking discovery was made by his son, Shadrach, who had been sent by his mother, Christina Mensah, to check on his father after numerous calls went unanswered.

According to Shadrach, the door was locked from the inside, and upon gaining entry, he found his father motionless on the floor.

“It looked like he had crawled from his mattress toward the door,” Shadrach said, suggesting signs of a struggle.

Christina confirmed that her husband had been sleeping in the shop to guard against frequent break-ins. “He was strong and full of life. I don’t know what happened,” she told Connect FM.

The body has since been transferred to a local mortuary for an autopsy, as police begin investigations into the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.
