Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has lauded the national Girls in ICT initiative as a transformative intervention for young women in the region.

On Friday, 13th June, he welcomed the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, as he commenced his regional tour with visits to two training centres.

The centres are: Amissah-Arthur Learning Centre in Ohawu, in the Ketu North district and In My Father’s House R.C. Basic School in Abor within the Keta Municipality of the region.

Mr Gunu described the scene as “truly inspiring,” witnessing young girls energetically engaging in digital skills training.

“A lot of girls are ready to learn ICT, but there were no means. We are truly grateful to Sam George and his Ministry for bringing this crucial initiative to the Volta Region,” Mr. Gunu said.

The national programme aims to train 3,000 girls in ICT this year, with plans to double that number in 2026, an ambitious target the minister believes will be a “game changer.”

Mr. Gunu expressed profound appreciation to the Minister, his team, and facilitators, noting that this initiative is not just about skill acquisition but about unlocking potential and fostering inclusivity.

“Volta Region is ready to lead in digital inclusion,” Mr Gunu affirmed, urging all participating girls to seize the opportunity wholeheartedly, as their future in the digital economy begins now.
