A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has said Ghanaian youth are expecting President John Dramani Mahama to deliver on job creation, especially through his flagship 24-hour economy policy.
According to him, the youth, who voted massively for President Mahama in the 2024 elections, are unforgiving and want results—not just promises.
“At the end of the day, the youth are unforgiving. They want jobs. They voted for you because they believe in your promise of a 24-hour economy,” he said while speaking on Accra-based Asaase Radio on Monday, June 16.
Gabby added that while government has a responsibility to create opportunities, the youth must also take advantage of them.
“If the government does its part by creating opportunities, then the youth must also rise to the challenge and focus on hard work. They must look beyond leaving Ghana. Opportunities are here on this continent,” he stated.
The lawyer and politician noted that social media often exaggerates government performance, but leaders must still focus on delivering results.
“In this era of social media, everything the government does is overexposed and exaggerated. But the real goal is to create space for people to pursue their aspirations,” he explained.
Gabby also described President Mahama as possibly the most prepared leader in Ghana’s history, given his wide range of political experience.
He said Mahama’s journey—from Assemblyman to Member of Parliament, Minister, Vice President, President, and now a return after eight years in opposition—gives him a rare second chance to do things better.
