Former Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant urges NPP to ditch old executives, back Patrick Boamah for 2028

Former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant Adom Bawuah is calling for a complete leadership overhaul in the New Patriotic Party ahead of the 2028 elections, warning that clinging to the legacy of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his appointees could doom the party to a long spell in opposition.

Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show on Tuesday, June 17, Bawuah didn’t mince words.

“It is time for the NPP to stop playing the ostrich. The party must face reality and accept that no appointee of former President Akufo-Addo has what it takes to restore the party’s fortunes,” he said.

He accused former appointees, including the Vice President, of neglecting grassroots development and prioritising personal gain over party interest.

“They were self-centred and greedy. Their only legacy is self-aggrandisement, not service,” Bawuah said, insisting they no longer resonate with the party’s base.

He warned that many of them now positioning for leadership have “outlived their usefulness” and should make way for fresh faces.

“They should humbly step aside. The foundation of the NPP, built over 32 years, has been eroded by their actions, making the party unattractive to the youth,” he argued.

Bawuah endorsed Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Yaw Boamah as the party’s best hope.

“Patrick Boamah is the finest option for the NPP. He is a lawyer, youthful, principled, and a true grassroots politician. He consistently polls more votes in his constituency than the party’s presidential candidates. That speaks volumes about his appeal and competence,” he stated.

He warned that overlooking Boamah could cost the NPP the next two electoral cycles.

“If the party makes the mistake of ignoring him, we should prepare for at least 12 years in opposition,” Bawuah cautioned.

Calling Boamah “the only sheep among greedy wolves,” he urged the party to choose a leader with integrity and genuine support from the grassroots.
