Instead of flagbearer elections, NPP should be apologising to Ghanaians — Dr Omane Boamah

Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) should focus on apologising to Ghanaians instead of preparing for the 2028 elections.

According to him, the NPP’s decision to fix a date for its next flagbearer race shows the party is more interested in regaining political power than taking responsibility for the economic hardship Ghanaians endured under the Akufo-Addo administration.

“The competent Economic Management Team did enough damage to pensioners, people with disabilities, women, the youth and Ghanaians in general,” he wrote in a social media post on Wednesday, June 18.

“In six short months, instead of apologising sincerely for their misdeeds, they’re focusing on the next elections. NPP thinks only about themselves and the next elections,” he added.

Dr Boamah’s criticism comes after the NPP announced January 31, 2026, as the date to elect its presidential candidate for the 2028 polls.

The date was approved during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, June 17.

“And the National Council today also made the decision that the date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries,” said Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s General Secretary.
