The final paper for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)—Arabic (Essay & Objective) will be written today, Wednesday, June 18, marking the official end of this year’s nationwide examination exercise.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the exams, commending its team and stakeholders for ensuring a smooth process across the country despite a few logistical challenges.
Speaking on Citi FM on Tuesday, June 17, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, praised the Council’s handling of the exams.
“I will say that on our part, we will pat ourselves on the back and say that we did a good job,” he remarked. “Usually, after examinations, what you expect as an examining body is that every candidate is provided the opportunity to write—in terms of questions, in terms of stationery. All of these things went to the candidates.”
Mr. Kapi acknowledged minor issues such as delays in delivering exam materials. One instance involved a vehicle breaking down while transporting question papers, and in another, a remote location caused a delivery delay due to the difficult terrain.

However, he emphasized that these challenges were swiftly resolved.
“On subsequent days, they decided to provide an extra vehicle, and so they were able to make it in good time ,” he added.
WAEC considers the 2025 BECE a success.
