Three Ghanaian nationals are set to be extradited to the United States to face criminal charges over their alleged involvement in internet fraud, following a directive by Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

This comes after a formal request from the United States government through its diplomatic representative, made in accordance with Ghana’s Extradition Act, 1960 (Act 22).

In a letter dated March 18, and addressed to the Magistrate of the District Court in Accra, the Interior Minister disclosed that the United States has requested the arrest and extradition of Isaac Oduro Boateng, Inusah Ahmed, Derrick Van Yeboah, and Patrick Kwame Asare, who are all Ghanaian nationals.

The letter stated: “A requisition has been made by the diplomatic representative of the United States of America through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to me the Minister to whom the President has assigned functions under the Extradition Act, 1960 (Act 22).”

According to the Interior Minister, the individuals are believed to be currently residing in Ghana, prompting the issuance of a directive for their apprehension.

“Now therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on the Minister for the Interior by Section 7(1) of the Extradition Act, 1960 (Act 22), the following order is hereby made,” the letter read.

“You are hereby required in accordance with the provision of Section 7(1) of the Extradition Act, 1960 (Act 22) to issue a warrant for the apprehension of the said [persons].”
