NPP sets 9-member committee to plan delegates conference

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has inaugurated a nine-member Conference Planning Committee to oversee preparations for its Annual National Delegates Conference, slated for July 18–20, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

“The committee is tasked with steering all preparations and logistics for the crucial delegates conference, where amendment motions will be formally considered.”

The planning team is chaired by Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu, with Henry Nana Boakye, Esq., serving as Vice Chair and Alhaji Haruna Mohammed as Secretary. Other members include Dr. Charles Dwamena, Divine Otoo Agorhom, Hon. Abena Osei Asare, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Hajia Safia Mohammed, and Salam Mustapha.

Ahead of the conference, the General Secretary will distribute proposed constitutional amendments to all regional and constituency secretariats.

“Party members, especially delegates, are being urged to review the documents thoroughly, as they will form the basis for debate and decision-making at the Extraordinary National Delegates Conference.”

In a related development, the NPP’s National Council has officially fixed “January 31, 2026,” as the date for its presidential primaries to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

This decision was finalized during a National Council meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in accordance with Article 13(1)(1) of the party’s constitution, which authorizes the Council to determine the timeline for presidential nominations.

During the meeting, the Council also reviewed proposals for constitutional amendments and internal restructuring in response to the party’s recent electoral defeat.

The Frank Davies-led Constitution Amendments Committee submitted its final report, built on extensive consultations with party members and stakeholder groups. The report strongly recommended an early primary date to resolve what it termed a “leadership vacuum” obstructing grassroots reorganization.

The National Council unanimously backed the recommendation, selecting January 31, 2026, as a strategic move to kick-start the party’s comeback campaign for 2028.
