The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season will commence on Friday, September 12, 2025, and conclude over the weekend of May 23-24, 2026.
This season’s calendar has been carefully structured to align with the 23rd FIFA World Cup, which will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The alignment ensures that the domestic league concludes before the global showpiece kicks off.
The GFA emphasized that the league schedule reflects its commitment to the FIFA calendar while preserving the integrity and competitiveness of local football.
Ahead of the season’s kickoff, the GFA’s Ordinary Congress is slated for August 12, 2025.
Just like in the 2024/25 season, Premier League matches will continue to be played primarily on Sundays, with midweek slots designated for any outstanding fixtures.
The player registration window for the new season will open on Monday, June 23, and close on Sunday, August 24, 2025, in accordance with GFA rules requiring all registrations to be completed before the start of the season.
Defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars SC will begin their title defence, while Techiman Eleven Wonders FC, Swedru All Blacks United FC, and Hohoe United FC make their return or debut in the top flight after earning promotion from the Access Bank Division One League.
The GFA says the early release of the schedule is intended to give clubs, players, and all stakeholders ample time to plan and prepare for what is expected to be a competitive and well-organized campaign.
