‘I’m ready to serve, lead, and transform Ghana’ — Dr. Adutwum

The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has explained why he wants to be elected as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The lawmaker said his desire to lead Ghana stems from his commitment to serve — the same commitment that made him leave California, where he had established schools, to return home and contribute to national development.

In a video announcing his intention to contest, which was shared on Wednesday, June 18, he said Ghana needs leadership rooted in vision, compassion, and discipline.

“I’m ready to serve. I’m ready to lead. I’m ready to transform. We are standing at a critical juncture in our national journey. Ghana needs leadership that is not only visionary but also deeply grounded in evidence, compassion and discipline — leadership that understands that transforming a nation begins with transforming minds,” he stated.

Dr. Adutwum added, “I believe in a Ghana where every child, regardless of background, receives quality education. I believe in a Ghana where all youth have access to opportunity and meaningful work. I believe in a Ghana where every citizen — from farmer to entrepreneur — has a stake in our shared progress. A Ghana where we will wage war against poverty and win.

“I believe in a Ghana where we fully understand and appreciate that in this Fourth Industrial Revolution, we must do everything possible for our citizens to acquire the skill set needed for socioeconomic transformation — with humility, conviction, and a resolute heart.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Adutwum is likely to face competition from other party stalwarts, including Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Abetifi MP and former Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The NPP has scheduled January 31, 2026, to elect its presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

The date was approved during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, June 17.
