After a triumphant domestic campaign last season, where Jonas Adjetey helped FC Basel secure their first league title since 2017, the 21-year-old has set his sights on Europe’s top club competition, the UEFA Champions League.

The former Berekum Chelsea defender is on the cusp of realizing a lifelong dream—but one final hurdle remains.

The Swiss giants must navigate the Champions League play-off round to secure a place in the prestigious group stage, and for Adjetey, the moment couldn’t be more significant.

In an exclusive interview with 3Sports, the Ghanaian defender , who played a key role in Basel’s strong campaign last season, expressed his excitement and anticipation.

“For me nothing really changed but I just tried to do my best and then try to fit in the first team. But apparently, when it started, I was training with the first team and was playing with the second team. and then there was an injury [to a teammate]. I came in and then I took my chance and then right from there, I built on it.”

Having grown up watching Europe’s elite battle it out on the grandest stage, Adjetey now stands just two games away from being part of it himself.

The forward’s passion and determination have been evident all season, and now, as Basel prepares for their qualifying clash, he hopes to translate that energy into a historic breakthrough for both himself and the club.

The upcoming Champions League qualifiers will be critical—not only for Basel’s continental ambitions but also for Adjetey’s personal journey from aspiring footballer in Ghana to competing on European football’s biggest stage.
