Effect citizen arrest if you see Ofori-Atta anywhere in the US — Ghanaians living abroad told

A public interest advocate, Rodaline Imoru Ayarna, has urged Ghanaians living in the United States to effect a citizen’s arrest on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta if they spot him anywhere.

Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for alleged corruption-related offences, including matters relating to the National Cathedral project and the SML scandal.

The OSP has since requested an Interpol red notice for his arrest amid reports that the former minister is receiving medical treatment in the United States.

He is said to have undergone prostate cancer surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, United States, on Friday, June 13.

But speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Thursday, June 19, Rodaline Ayarna said Ghanaians abroad should not sympathise with individuals accused of causing harm to the nation.

“As a wanted person, any Ghanaian, any African, anybody—if you find Ken Ofori-Atta anywhere, in a restaurant, in a shop, anywhere—please effect a citizen’s arrest. Let’s get him back to this country,” she said.

She added, “You benefit at the expense of your own people, and when the country borrows, you gain, but we the taxpayers are asked to pay for it. It’s not fair.”
