The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has strongly criticised recent public endorsements by some party figures ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s political programme “Dwabrem,” Mr. Frimpong expressed concern over open declarations of support for specific candidates, warning that such actions threaten party unity and risk derailing preparations for the 2028 general elections.

In particular, he condemned some sitting Members of Parliament who have publicly backed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as more than 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who have thrown their support behind Kennedy Agyapong.

“These endorsements, coming at this stage, are premature and could seriously affect our internal cohesion and electoral strategy going forward,” Frimpong cautioned.

He urged all party members to remain disciplined and law-abiding, adding that the leadership would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against individuals who bring the party’s name into disrepute.

“As a party, we are committed to unity and victory in 2028. That can only happen if every member plays by the rules,” he emphasized.

The NPP’s National Executive Council has set January 31, 2026, for the party’s presidential primaries. According to Frimpong, comprehensive guidelines—including nomination procedures, campaign schedules, and codes of conduct for aspirants—will be released in the coming weeks.

His remarks are seen as a clear message to all stakeholders to avoid divisive conduct as the party enters a critical phase of internal reorganisation and candidate selection.
