The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Mr. Martin Kwaku Ayisi (Esq.), has proposed an amendment to the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) as part of ongoing efforts to reform the sector.

Mr. Ayisi made the proposal during a high-level meeting on June 19, 2025, with the management of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). The engagement formed part of the Minerals Commission’s ongoing review of the 2014 Mining Policy.

He was accompanied by a team that included Mr. William Ntow Boahene (Esq.), Board Chairman of the Commission; Professor Jerry Samuel Yaw Kuma, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources; Ms. Victoria Awuni, Deputy CEO in charge of Policy Planning, Mineral Titles & Local Content; and Mr. Benjamin Aryee, Former CEO of the Commission and leader of the Review Committee.

The NDPC team, led by Director-General Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, welcomed the delegation and offered critical recommendations to guide the policy review process.

Dr. Amoah and her technical team advised the Review Committee to align the revised policy framework with NDPC’s policy guidelines to ensure harmony with national development planning standards. They also recommended the integration of a Strategic Implementation Plan and a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework, to ensure consistent feedback for future amendments and policy evolution.

In response, Mr. Ayisi welcomed the suggestions and requested that NDPC submit detailed written proposals within two weeks for consideration by the Review Committee.
