The Accra Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for an unidentified man captured in a viral social media video obstructing police officers during a lawful operation.
In the widely circulated footage, the man is seen interfering with officers as they attempted to conduct a search, an action the police say undermines their authority and threatens public order.
A separate video, according to the police, also shows the same individual issuing threats against the officer, acts the Command describes as criminal and unacceptable in a law-abiding society.
“The said individual, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, is also seen and heard in a separate video issuing threats directed at the Ghana Police Service. These actions not only constitute offences under Ghanaian law but also undermine the authority of the Police and pose a threat to public order,” the statement dated June 20, said in part.
The statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Command, further cautioned that obstructing an officer in the discharge of lawful duties and threatening public officers are offences punishable by law.
“The Command wishes to condemn in no uncertain terms such acts of interference and issuance of threats, which have no place in a law-abiding society,” it stated.
The police say investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the suspect.
In the interim, the individual has been urged to report to the nearest police station to assist with the ongoing probe.
