Hon. Dr. Stephen Amoah!
I convey this important piece in response to your deliberate religious bigotry statement made during your engagement with the TESCON wing of the Party.
To delve deeper into your unfortunate, embarrassing, and distasteful comments, which have the tendency to bring religious division to the rank and file of the NPP.
As an Honourable member of Parliament, I least expected such unguided utterances from you, which don’t seek to create peace, unity, and togetherness.
Indeed, I was scandalized and shocked to the bone when I carefully watched the video in which you stated in clear terms that “Christians hardly vote for Muslim leaders, that’s a fact.”
Dr. Sticka, are you sure your constituents are happy with the way you have tried to convince the intellectual wing of the Party? Or was it a slip of the tongue?
But, I’m convinced that you made that statement deliberately, and will that help your preferred candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom)?
In all honesty, I believe upon sober reflection, you have regretted such a divisive campaign you want to advance to garner votes for your preferred candidate.
Clearly, you have been in the game of politics for long and your level of experience should have been a guiding principle for you to be measured and tactful.
Dr. Sticka, since you hold this view, why is it that the revered Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had more votes than you in your own Constituency, which you campaigned day and night?
Instructively, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia obtained votes more than you, and where lies this hollow assertion that Christians will never vote for a Muslim to lead since you didn’t perform more than our Presidential Candidate?
Ghana is a country with various religious groups dotted across the country which continue to live in peace and unison. Therefore, it’s quite ridiculous for such a religiously bigoted comment.
Back to your Constituency, the voter population consists of all manner of ethnic and religious groupings who vote for people based on competence, hard work, and the capacity to deliver not necessarily their ethic and religious background.
Realistically, no one denies you your liberty to support your preferred candidate but this uncouth and divisive campaign can’t add value to our internal democracy and will even send a wrong signal to Ghanaians, especially Muslims.
To summarize, there are some Muslims who are also in support of your preferred candidate, and your actions clearly demonstrate a direct insult to them, and it’s imperative for you to desist from this kind of commentary.
We will need each other after the internal contest, and we must guard our utterances not to give our opponent the arsenal to fight the NPP. With all due respect, I expect you to apologize to all Muslims for the demeaning comments.
Thank you
Shalom!
