The Accra Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a video circulating on social media showing a man obstructing police officers in the line of duty and issuing threats against the Ghana Police Service.

The police, in a statement, said that in a separate video, the same individual whose identity is yet to be confirmed is heard making threatening remarks directed at the Police. According to the Command, these actions are criminal and threaten public order.

“These actions not only constitute offences under Ghanaian law but also undermine the authority of the Police and pose a threat to public order,” the statement said.

The Police condemned the incident and emphasised that such conduct has no place in a law-abiding society.

“Obstructing a police officer in the performance of lawful duties is a criminal offence, as is issuing threats against public officers or institutions,” the statement stressed.

The Police stated that investigations are already underway to identify and arrest the suspect for prosecution. They have urged the individual involved to turn himself in at the nearest police station to assist with the investigations.

Meanwhile, the public has been advised to avoid interfering with the work of law enforcement and to seek lawful means of addressing any grievances.

“The Accra Regional Command remains committed to maintaining law and order and will continue to uphold the rights and safety of all citizens,” the statement added.

Members of the public who have any information that could help the investigation are encouraged to report to the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 18555 or 112.
