In an effort to establish a strong presence of Shamanism in Ghana, The Ola Herbal And Spiritual Centre (Soul Travel Ghana) has organised its inaugural initiation ceremony for devotees, culminating in the induction of one Shaman and four Spiritual Healers at a vibrant and elaborate event held at Kasoa- Opeikuma in the Central Region of Ghana.
Ordination to honour ancestral lineage
The ceremony, held on Saturday, 21st June, 2025 and themed ‘Honouring The Ancestral Lineage And The Reawakening of Ancestral Gifts Through The Ordination’, brought together well-wishers of the graduands, members of Soul Travel Ghana, including general members of the community. It was an ordination ceremony organized to introduce aspirants who had completed five years of training.
Ola Maame, the founder and leader of Soul Travel Ghana, who spoke to journalists, revealed that one of the five emerged as a certified Shaman (A shaman is a spiritual practitioner, often a healer, who acts as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms), while the others graduated as Spiritual Healers. Regarding spiritual training and tutelage, she took the opportunity to admonish all spiritual practitioners to be willing to train, mentor, initiate, and back their graduands with spiritual energies to help them become successful.
Ritual performance and significance
Elaborating on why she and her students chewed kolanuts and salt, a specific ritual that garnered attention from onlookers, she explained that due to the malevolent nature of humans, this was a pact ritual designed to prevent them from turning against each other and benefiting from their collective labour thereafter.
“Human nature is inherently self-serving. The pact and covenant ritual ensures that none of us would act against the other, but rather support each other in enjoying the benefits of our collective efforts. If you act against me, you ultimately act against yourself. If you contribute to my well-being, you contribute to your own well-being, and if you harm me, you harm yourself. That is the fundamental principle”, she articulated.
Ola Maame, the Shaman expressed gratitude to religious leaders, traditional leaders and others who have, in diverse ways, contributed to the programme’s success, noting that this underscores the growing recognition of spiritualists’ work by the general population.
Act of charity to support business growth
When questioned about gifting ¢500.00 to 20 people during the initiation exercise, she explained that most of their retreat programmes are well patronised by people, emphasising that the motive of the cash gift was to support their businesses to rise and not fall again.
“Normally, most businesses would rise and fall. Our financial support is to help them sustain their business. This is backed by the power of an entity that will ensure such businesses thrive,” she stated.
Upcoming events for the future
Regarding upcoming events throughout the year, she mentioned preparations for the ‘Tumi Kese’ festival. However, she announced a forthcoming retreat organised by Orobas, the son of the night, in which she will play a prominent role. According to her, the retreat promises to be a transformative experience, featuring fertility, money, and travelling rituals for those seeking assistance. She encouraged everyone present to follow the event on Orobas’ page for updates.
A word of advise from GHAFTRAM
Nana Kwadwo Obiri, General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Associations (GHAFTRAM), expressed his admiration for the admonition Ola Maame gave to her graduating students, stating that deciding to utilize their knowledge for good or evil was a personal choice, which, in the Secretary’s view, exemplifies unity in service to God.
Nana Obiri further advised the ordained students to endeavour to register with the federation, given that the institution where they received their training is a licensed facility, cautioning that this is the sole means by which they would avoid being harassed by law enforcement officers in the pursuit of their chosen profession as herbal and spiritual practitioners. “The certificate received from Ola Maame automatically confers upon you the opportunity to register with the council prior to commencing work,” he advised.
Newly ordained members
In all five individuals, comprising 3 ladies (Happy Nukafu, Rose Amegadzi, and Blessing Amu) and 2 gentlemen (Emmanuel Fobih and Samson Annor-Addo), graduated. Three of the graduands would be leaving to continue their pastoral work, but the other 2 initiates would continue to work with her, ensuring that Soul Travel spiritual experience continues with or without her.
The inaugural graduation ceremony has been held for the first 5 graduands from The Ola Herbal and Spiritual Centre (Soul Travel Ghana). Does this mark the beginning of the entrenchment of Shamanism in Ghana? Only time will tell when the dust settles.
