Bawumia is the one who can get my vote among NPP flagbearer contenders — Manasseh Azure

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has declared that among all the candidates expected to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer elections, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stands miles ahead.

The NPP, following its National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, June 17, has set January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

So far, names including former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Dr. Bawumia himself have been mentioned as likely contenders.

Reacting to these developments in a social media post on Monday, June 23, Manasseh said Dr. Bawumia is the only person among the NPP contenders who could win his vote in the next election.

“I want a candidate I can vote for if the NDC doesn’t impress me. Among the options lined up to lead the NPP, the candidate who has the chance of getting my vote is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.

“Dr. Bawumia may not be the best in the entire NPP as a party, but from the list of options ready to lead, he stands out by miles,” he added.

Manasseh also named former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong—who once served as President Kufuor’s press secretary—as his second-best choice after Bawumia.

Reiterating his position on political neutrality, he wrote, “I’m not politically neutral. I wrote an article to that effect in 2014. It’s a Google search away. I am a citizen of Ghana, first and foremost, before being a journalist. I vote. And I have an interest in who becomes my president.”
