Anhwiafutu Primary School on verge of collapse Anhwiafutu Primary School on verge of collapse

Anhwiafutu Primary School, the only basic education facility serving the Anhwiafutu community in the Sefwi Akontombra District, has been described as a ‘ticking time bomb’ due to its dangerously dilapidated infrastructure.

The school, which serves over 300 pupils and teachers, is now teetering on the edge of collapse, with large cracks in its walls, a leaking roof, and a crumbling foundation making daily teaching and learning hazardous.

According to 3news.com report on June 23, 2025, classrooms get flooded when it rains, forcing pupils to crowd in corners to avoid being soaked or hit by falling debris.

Desks, books, and other teaching materials are often drenched, disrupting lessons and hampering academic performance.

Concerned pupils and residents are calling for immediate intervention from the Ghana Education Service (GES), philanthropic and faith-based organisations.

“This school is a lifeline for our children. If nothing is done soon, we could lose lives. We cannot wait until tragedy strikes before action is taken,” a concerned resident said.

Some pupils have expressed fear over the deteriorating conditions, stressing that unless swift action is taken, the situation could lead to a tragic incident.

The plight of Anhwiafutu Primary School underscores the urgent need for sustained investment in rural educational infrastructure to ensure safe and conducive learning environments for students.
