The Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), John M.K. Wumborti, has toured the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi as part of the Bureau’s strategic agenda to strengthen collaboration with key aviation stakeholders and reinforce safety oversight at the nation’s airports.

During the visit, the Commissioner inspected critical safety installations, operational zones, emergency response systems, and airside infrastructure, with a focus on the airport’s compliance with AIB’s prescribed safety and preventive measures.

Mr. Wumborti emphasised the importance of fostering a proactive safety culture within Ghana’s aviation ecosystem.

“Our mandate as a Bureau is not only to investigate accidents and incidents after they occur but, more importantly, to prevent them. This visit ensures that protocols are not just in place but are actively being implemented to safeguard lives and assets,” he stated.

He commended the airport authorities for their efforts in maintaining high safety standards and urged them to remain vigilant, with regular training to keep pace with global best practices.

Mr. Wumborti further affirmed the AIB’s commitment to its main mission of supporting a safe, secure, and efficient air transport system through proactive oversight, timely investigations, and preventive measures.

The Head of Regional Airport South, Mr. Maxwell Yeboah, expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that such periodic engagements are instrumental in strengthening collaboration.
