The University of Ghana’s Health Services Directorate has raised an alert following a recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases within the university community.

According to a statement, several suspected and confirmed cases have been identified in and around the campus, prompting authorities to implement renewed precautionary measures.

“In light of this development, the Health Services Directorate is urging all staff, students, and visitors to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to recommended preventive measures to mitigate the risk of infection and community spread,” the statement read.

To help curb the spread, the Directorate has outlined several preventive guidelines.

These include:

Wearing face masks properly, especially in enclosed or crowded spaces

Washing hands frequently with soap under running water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers

Maintaining physical distancing of at least one meter wherever possible

Avoiding large gatherings unless absolutely necessary

Additionally, the Directorate is advising the university community to improve ventilation in offices, lecture halls, and meeting rooms. Individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms are encouraged to stay home and seek prompt medical attention.

“In response to the resurgence, the Health Services Directorate has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols, which include screening and triage measures at health facilities. The situation is being closely monitored, and regular updates will be provided to the university community,” the statement further noted.

The Health Services Directorate is calling on all members of the university to cooperate and act responsibly to protect themselves and others during this renewed wave of infections.
