The KNUST Career Services Centre, in collaboration with TV3, the College of Engineering, and the KNUST School of Business, successfully organized an engaging Career Fair under the theme “Connecting Talent to the World.”
This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between students, alumni and potential employers by providing a platform for meaningful interactions that address the evolving needs of the aforementioned parties.
This year’s Career Fair attracted over 40 companies including GCB, Media General, Nestle Ghana, GNPC, Tullow Ghana, Quantum Group, Huawei Technologies, AngloGold Ashanti, Puma Energy, Education USA (US Embassy), British High Commission, Access Bank Ghana, Total Energies, Star Life Insurance, LMI Holdings, Agrocrown West Africa Company Limited, The Automation Ghana Group, Heidelberg Materials Digital Hub Ghana, GHACEM, DigVibe, SMT Ghana Limited (Service, Machinery and Trucks), Interplast Ghana, Bunge, Multicad Consulting Architects, Jobberman, SEO Africa, Soko Job, JD Link Company Limited, WakaNow Ghana, Axis Human Capital, Zonda TEC Ghana Limited, True Moringa, African Centre for Career Enhancement and Skills Support – ACCESS Ghana, AgroEcom, ALX, Technip FMC, and Flexi-Space Limited.
The fair also saw thousands of brilliant students from across various faculties at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). It provided a vibrant platform for dialogue, networking, and career exploration.
In her address, the Director of the KNUST Career Services Centre, Mrs. Selina Doe Angmor, emphasized that the Career Fair was designed to: connect students with industry leaders, recruiters and the world at large; Inform, inspire and to expose students to the evolving demands of the workplace and the diverse pathways available after graduation; and strengthen partnerships between the University and employers, students and mentors, and academia and industry.
She also highlighted the Centre’s free recruitment services, which are tailored to ease the burden associated with recruitment and hiring process for companies. Mrs. Angmor noted that the Centre is fully equipped to support organizations in sourcing qualified and competent candidates from its pool of students and alumni.
The Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, who served as the keynote speaker, lauded industry partners for their continuous support in equipping students for the global job market.
She reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment – spanning over 70 years – to nurturing talent and building 21st-century skills essential for economic development. She urged students to enhance their creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, encouraging them to “think not only outside the box, but as though there were no box.”
The Provost of the College of Engineering, Professor Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, assured employers that KNUST boasts a vibrant talent pool of over 85,000 students—an active pipeline of ideas and innovation ready to meet the demands of industry partners. Professor Nyarko also encouraged students to make the most of the Career Fair, emphasizing that such direct and meaningful interactions with employers are rare once they leave the university environment.
The Dean of the School of Business, Professor Ahmed Agyapong, stated that the Career Fair demonstrated the university’s commitment not only to academic excellence but also to preparing students for the practical demands of the world of work.
Professor Dadson Awunyo-Vitor, Chairman of the Industrial Liaison Committee, emphasized that collaboration with industry partners extends beyond the Career Fair. He noted that these partnerships play a vital role in the continuous review and enhancement of the university’s teaching curriculum to ensure that graduates are well-equipped and industry-ready. He encouraged industry professionals to proactively engage with the university by identifying any gaps between their workforce needs and the skills students possess. He also highlighted the innovative solutions being developed by students and urged industry stakeholders to take an active interest in innovations that align with their operational needs.
Throughout the event, scores of students engaged in meaningful interactions with company representatives, allowing industry leaders to identify and connect with top talent to meet their recruitment needs. These interactions not only helped companies promote their brands, products, and services, but also offered students valuable opportunities for internships, national service placements, and full-time job offers with their dream employers.
Media General and GCB Bank PLC served as key industry partners for this landmark event.
Representing the Managing Director of GCB Bank, Madam, Nana Bema Kodwiw, Manager for Talent Management, reaffirmed the bank’s belief in the potential of young people to drive business sustainability. She noted that GCB Bank is deeply committed to supporting the growth and aspirations of the youth, which is why they proudly partnered with the Career Services Centre for this year’s Career Fair.
As part of their strategy to stay close to their customers and provide tailored financial solutions, GCB Bank actively creates opportunities for tertiary students to gain practical experience within the organization. Madam Bema highlighted that the bank currently hosts approximately 642 national service personnel and offers internship placements, while supporting over 100 graduates annually through various training programs. Addressing aspiring women professionals, Madam Bema emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities, mastering the art of multitasking, and applying knowledge gained from diverse experiences in their journey toward leadership and career advancement.
Speaking on behalf of the CEO for Media General, the General Manager for Human Resources, Madam Ama Lawson, in her address, highlighted the wide range of opportunities available for talent being developed at KNUST to collaborate and work with Media General’s numerous outlets nationwide. She emphasized the organization’s core values—innovation, professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and a strong commitment to supporting communities and the vulnerable and also welcomed students who believe they possess the right skill sets and these core values to reach out and explore opportunities with Media General, affirming the company’s openness to engaging new talents ready to contribute meaningfully to their dynamic media landscape.
Representatives from GNPC, Puma Energy, Total Energies, AngloGold Ashanti, Education USA (US Embassy), the British High Commission, SMT Ghana, Access Bank DigiVibe, WakaNow, LMI holdings among others also took turns in sharing key opportunities available for students and alumni in their presentations.
The Career Fair also featured two major competitions: the Social Impact Challenge and the Orator of the Year contest. The Social Impact Challenge showcased student-led initiatives aimed at addressing pressing societal issues. Mr. Dennis Nana Agyei Gyebi, a third-year Human Resource Management student from the Business School emerged the overall winner for this contest. The Orator of the Year competition identified students with outstanding public speaking and communication skills. Mr. Christian Oduro Okrah, a second-year BSc Agriculture student, was declared the winner with an exceptional display of clarity, confidence, and persuasive articulation.
The Career Fair was beautifully crowned on its second day, as the Career Services Centre, in collaboration with various stakeholders, provided essential logistical support to companies to facilitate internship, national service, and job recruitment interviews and assessments (including aptitude testing). These companies were Zonda TECH, SMT, LMI Holdings, DigiVibe, Quantum Ghana, Mulcad Consulting Architects, GNPC, Huawei Technologies, GHACEM, AgroCrown, JD Links, Automatipon Ghana, Puma Energy, Total Energies, Olam Ghana, and Axis Human Capital.
The KNUST Career Services Centre extends its heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders and partners for their invaluable support in making the fair a resounding success.
