The Management of the University of Ghana has clarified that recent restrictions on social gatherings, in response to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, apply only to student-related activities.
According to the university, all official events will continue as scheduled but under strict adherence to COVID-19 preventive protocols.
In a statement issued on Thursday, June 26, and signed by Dr. Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs, the university urged members of the community to comply fully with the safety guidelines.
“Management of the University has taken note of reports circulating in sections of the media regarding the alleged cancellation of official University events, following a recent health advisory issued by the University Health Services Directorate on the resurgence of COVID-19.
“Management wishes to clarify that the restriction on social gatherings pertains solely to student activities, as clearly outlined in a prior notice issued by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, announcing the suspension of all student social events,” the statement read in part.
It added, “The University community is hereby informed that all scheduled official university events remain unaffected and will proceed as planned, with appropriate health and safety protocols in place.”
The university highlighted that events such as the Inaugural Lecture held today, Thursday, June 26, and the climax of the 2025 Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa (DSRA), set for Friday, June 27, will go on as planned.
