The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has graduated the first cohort of students from its MSc Petroleum Engineering programme.

Of the 12 students who enrolled in 2024, 11 successfully completed the programme within the designated one-year period, resulting in a 92% graduation rate. The achievement highlights the students’ dedication, faculty commitment, and the department’s capacity to deliver quality postgraduate education.

The Department now offers a full range of postgraduate programmes: PhD, MPhil, and MSc and supports both undergraduate and graduate research.

It is equipped with six advanced petroleum laboratories valued at more than USD12 million. The facilities, among the most advanced in the sub-region, are currently used for training and research, with plans to expand into specialised services for Ghana’s oil and gas sector.

The Department maintains strong industrial and academic partnerships, both locally and internationally, with oil and gas companies and institutions.

These collaborations enhance academic delivery and ensure students and faculty remain aligned with global developments in petroleum engineering.

Dr. Yen Adams Sokama-Neuyam, Head of Department, praised the collective efforts that led to the programme’s success.

“This graduation is not only a proud moment for our department but also a demonstration of what rigorous academic training and support can accomplish,” he said. “Special appreciation goes to Dr. Kwame Sarkodie, Senior Lecturer and Postgraduate Programmes Coordinator, for his unwavering commitment to student success and programme excellence.”
