A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy, has disclosed that former President John Agyekum Kufuor has advised ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to apologise to Ghanaians for the economic hardship and governance failures that characterized his administration.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Saturday, June 28,2025, Arthur Kennedy stated that he picked this information “from the grapevine” and strongly endorsed the call for an apology from the former president.

“I have heard from the grapevine that President Kufuor has suggested to President Akufo-Addo to apologise to Ghanaians. This is advice I agree with. He must apologise,” Dr. Arthur Kennedy said.

The former NPP presidential aspirant made the comment during a panel discussion on the party’s upcoming internal elections.

He criticized the Akufo-Addo administration for fostering a culture of impunity, corruption, arrogance of power, and economic hardship.

“There was impunity; there was corruption. There was arrogance of power and there was hardship,” he lamented.

Arthur Kennedy’s remarks came in the wake of public concerns raised by former President Kufuor at the inauguration of the New Patriotic Party’s Patriotic Institute.

During the event, Kufuor questioned the NPP’s declining fortunes since 2016.

“How come our fortunes have been dwindling since 2016, 2020, and now our current state?” the former president asked.

In response, Arthur Kennedy attributed the party’s waning popularity to what he noted as poor governance and the perceived indifference of the Akufo-Addo administration regarding the sufferings of Ghanaians.

“The electorate endured all that and decided to give them the sack during the election,” he asserted.
