His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will today, Monday, June 30, 2025, hold a pivotal meeting with the Kusang Traditional Council as part of a determined intervention to bring lasting peace to the long-troubled Bawku enclave in the Upper East Region.

The Manhyia Palace, in a press release dated June 29, announced that the meeting is one of several high-level engagements led by the revered monarch, aimed at diffusing tensions and laying the groundwork for sustainable peace in the conflict-hit area.

The statement, signed by the Office of the Chief of Staff at Manhyia, called on all parties to cooperate fully with Otumfuo’s mediation efforts, which have been widely praised for their depth, credibility, and nonpartisan nature.

“His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II… requests all stakeholders to cooperate for us to find a lasting peace in Bawku,” the release stated.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, widely acknowledged for his formidable role in peacebuilding and traditional diplomacy, is stepping into the Bawku crisis at a time when years of ethnic and chieftaincy-related conflict have deeply fractured communities and strained security operations in the region.

His personal involvement reflects the urgency and national importance of achieving a breakthrough in one of Ghana’s most persistent flashpoints of unrest.

The meeting with the Kusang Traditional Council is expected to open a new chapter in peace efforts by fostering mutual understanding, promoting dialogue, and uniting the various factions behind a shared vision for reconciliation.

All eyes will be on the Manhyia-led process, with hopes that today’s engagement will mark a decisive shift from conflict toward collaboration in the Bawku peace process.
