Bawumia is seen as the man with vision to move Ghana forward — Dr. Zaato

A political science analyst and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Joshua Jebuntie Zaato, has described former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the right person to take over from President John Dramani Mahama in 2029.

He said the 2024 NPP flagbearer is widely regarded within the party as intelligent, visionary, and a unifier capable of restoring hope and strengthening the party ahead of the next general elections.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day on Wednesday, July 2, Dr. Zaato said recent polls reflect strong support for Dr. Bawumia’s leadership across party lines.

“NPP members see His Excellency Dr. Bawumia as the most experienced, the most intelligent, and the unifier. They see in him the humility, knowledge and competence to unite the party and take the fight to the NDC,” he said.

He added that the former Vice President’s vision, coupled with his policy track record, makes him the ideal successor to President Mahama.

“We see in him a man who is smart, hardworking, and has practical policies that can help move people forward,” Dr. Zaato stated.

Referencing Ghana’s political history, the analyst argued that Dr. Bawumia stands a strong chance of becoming President, just as many former presidential contenders eventually succeeded those who once defeated them.

“Almost every president handed over — or let me say, 90% of the presidents handed over — to the people they defeated,” he noted.
