Ghana must stick to the ‘John’ factor after mistakenly voting for ‘Nana’ and vote Alan as President in 2028 — Solomon Owusu

A leading member of the Movement for Change political group, Solomon Owusu, has urged Ghanaians to vote for Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen as President in the 2028 general elections.

According to him, Ghana’s political progress has always been tied to leaders with the name “John”, citing former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kuffuor, John Evans Atta Mills, and John Mahama as examples.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Wednesday, July 2, Mr. Owusu said the returned to a ‘John’ after the 2024 elections has begun turning things around for the better after mistakenly voting Nana Akufo-Addo.

“In 2028, the candidate Ghanaians have been waiting for will emerge — the last John. Remember, we’ve had Jerry John Rawlings, John Evans Atta Mills, and then we made the mistake of introducing Nana Akufo-Addo. That’s where the country lost its way,” he said.

“We reversed it with John Mahama, and things began to stabilize. 2028 belongs to Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen,” Mr. Owusu declared.

He made the comments while reacting to the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming flagbearer election, slated for January 31, 2026.

Mr. Owusu argued that none of the anticipated NPP contenders, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, and Bryan Acheampong, is fit to lead the country.

He further alleged that most former NPP appointees currently facing corruption trials were loyalists of Dr. Bawumia during the party’s 2023 flagbearer contest.

“If you look at what is happening in the country right now, about 90% of those accused of stealing public funds were supporters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he claimed.

“A typical case is the national service scandal. We are told they took a lot of money — GH₵250 million. This happened in 2023, during the NPP internal election, where they were flaunting wealth as if they had money-printing machines in their homes,” he added.
