The John Dramani Mahama government launched the much-anticipated 24-Hour Economy policy on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

The policy, which is aimed at helping solve Ghana’s unemployment challenge, was the main campaign promise of the ruling National Democratic Congress for the 2024 Election.

At the launch of the initiative, President Mahama said that the policy was not merely aimed at increasing working hours, but will seek to expand opportunities, stimulate exports, and foster well-structured, multi-sectoral interventions that benefit all Ghanaians.

“The 24H Plus agenda is not simply extending working hours; it’s about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating exports through well-structured, multi-sectoral and inclusive interventions. And so we would have national consultations and co-design,” President Mahama stated.

The president went on to give some details of the programme, including the acquisition of 2 billion hectares of land for intensive agriculture under the Good24 programme, which will mobilise all sectors — from religious, security, academic to civic — as part of efforts to enhance national productivity.

President Mahama also unveiled plans to establish agri-industrial parks focused on textiles, pharmaceuticals, and food processing.

After his statement, Mahama, together with his vice, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and other government officials, unveiled the official logo of the policy to mark the commencement of its implementation.
