The Paramount Chief of Elmina in the Edina Traditional Area, Nana Kwadwo Conduah VI, has sparked controversy after being seen adorned in National Democratic Congress (NDC) paraphernalia while seated in a palanquin during the 2025 Bakatue Festival.

In a viral video, the chief is seen wearing NDC colours and a branded scarf tied around his head, as he is lifted into the air in a palanquin carried by his subordinates, joyfully jamming to Kofi Kinaata’s hit song ‘Abonsam’ as part of the festival procession.

This is not the first time Nana Kwadwo Conduah VI has stirred public debate. He was previously captured dancing to King Paluta’s popular song Aseda, which also sparked mixed reactions online.

The 2025 Edina Bakatue Festival was officially launched on Tuesday, 25th February, at the historic Elmina Castle.

The annual festival marks the beginning of the fishing season for the people of Elmina and surrounding communities.

It consistently draws hundreds of locals and visitors eager to witness the colorful celebrations and cultural displays.
