The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Augustina Adoma, for allegedly setting her ex-boyfriend’s kiosk ablaze and stabbing him in the chest during a violent altercation in Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.
The incident took place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, and involved 30-year-old Emmanuel Otabil, a commercial driver and Adoma’s former partner.
According to police accounts, Adoma stormed Otabil’s residence uninvited at around 9:00 a.m. and found him in the company of another woman. In a fit of rage, she allegedly poured water on both individuals and left with Otabil’s Samsung mobile phone.
Later that afternoon, around 4:00 p.m., she reportedly returned to Otabil’s premises while he was away. Using a duplicate key, she is said to have entered his kiosk and set fire to several personal items, including a mattress, blankets, and bed sheets.
That same evening, Otabil confronted her about the incident and demanded the return of his phone. A heated exchange ensued, during which Adoma allegedly grabbed a knife from a nearby orange seller and stabbed him in the left side of the chest.
Otabil was rushed to Race Course Hospital, then transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital, and finally to the University of Ghana Medical Centre where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment.
Adoma was later arrested at the Tesano Police Station, where she had gone to lodge an unrelated assault complaint. Police retrieved the stolen mobile phone from her at the station.
“The case remains under investigation,” a police statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng of the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit confirmed.
The police urged members of the public to seek legal and peaceful resolution to domestic disagreements and warned against taking the law into their own hands.
