John Dramani Mahama is the President of Ghana
President John Dramani Mahama has charged the newly appointed Supreme Court Justices to carry the robe of office not as a symbol of dominance, but as a solemn duty entrusted to them by Ghanaians.
Speaking during the swearing-in of seven new Justices at the Jubilee House on Thursday, July 3, 2025, President Mahama underscored the immense responsibility the position carries, calling on the judges to serve with humility, integrity, and unwavering dedication to justice.
“To our newly sworn-in justices, I say this: today, you inherit the robe of honour and the weight of a nation’s expectations. This robe is not simply a mark of office. It is a public trust. It is a symbol of service, humility and accountability. Wear it with wisdom,” he said.
He reminded the Justices that their interpretations of the law must reflect not only the letter but also the spirit of Ghana’s democracy. Their judgments, he said, should resonate with the lived experiences of the ordinary citizen.
“Do not treat the law as a lifeless text, breathe into it empathy, relevance, and a deep understanding of the people’s struggles. Let your legacy be defined not by rhetoric, but by reason, compassion, and fairness”, President Mahama stated.
He reiterated his commitment to reforming the justice system to make it more accessible and responsive to all Ghanaians.
He stressed that justice must not be commodified or reserved for the privileged few.
“In this new Republic we are building, justice must not be a product to be purchased. It must be a right guaranteed by the State, accessible to every citizen regardless of status or income,” he asserted.
The seven newly confirmed Justices are Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo, and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba.
