The NPP lost the 2024 elections after failing to meet all their promises, including the fight against corruption, because Ghanaians have had enough of politicians giving promises of tackling this biggest problem that continues to create poverty and prevent development. Unfortunately, it seems in opposition, either the opposition pretends they don’t know what cost them the 2024 elections, or they are not prepared to fight against corruption even when given another chance to rule the country.
Akufo-Addo, the former president of Ghana, declared Mahama corrupt and incompetent and promised Ghanaians not only to preserve the public coffers but also to fight corruption using the same principles as investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. However, after the eight years of governance of the NPP, Ghanaians witnessed widespread corruption, money laundering, and the collapse of banking institutions, the economy, businesses, and investments amid high inflation and a national debt of GHC 763 billion.
On the list of the “Operation Recover All Loot—ORAL team are more than 700 corruption cases involving high-ranking NPP politicians. However, the government has been experiencing attacks on its investigations by the NPP’s politicians, including Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader in parliament, and one Abdul Hanna Wahab, the former CEO of the National Food. What lessons so far has the NPP learned in the opposition if they are accusing the NDC government of investigating corruption for persecution?
It is really worrisome and a threat to Ghana’s development or progress if the opposition NPP keeps criticizing the government and calling their attempts to look into national corruption persecution. Since no sane Ghanaian will vote for the NPP because they have proven that they are not ready to fight corruption, just as Akufo-Addo did, I would like to know what the party is running on and why they are making efforts to come to power since no intelligent Ghanaian will vote for such a party.
Ghana’s once-thriving economy, businesses, and investments have been destroyed by massive, pervasive corruption, money laundering, and state looting. Many institutions, such as the ECG, COCOBOD, and SSNIT, were also left bankrupt or in debt, and the NPP is opposing the government’s attempts to reclaim the stolen funds and state assets. What is the NPP attempting to accomplish, given that the government’s inability to combat corruption caused them to defect to the opposition?
Currently, the Attorney General is dealing with a large number of corruption cases involving prominent NPP politicians who have been detained, questioned, or on the run, such as Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Ken Ofori-Atta, Cecilia Dapaah, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and Ameyaw-Akumfi. Consequently, I believe that the NPP is more concerned with corruption than with the advancement of the country if they are characterizing the government’s inquiry as persecution.
Imagine that Paul Yandoh, an NPP politician and the Ashanti region communication director, has come to criticize the government after the arrest of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former managing director of GIHOC, for unlawfully possessing three state vehicles. He asserts that Kofi Jumah is too old to be detained and handled in this manner. To put it another way, Kofi Jumah is an elderly man with the strength to steal but not enough to be taken into custody and questioned.
Eugene Boakye Antwi, the former MP for Subin, stated that “he prays that Mahama will fail so that the NPP can win the 2028 elections.” This should serve as a warning to all Ghanaians that the NPP is still a political party that is only interested in gaining power and has nothing unique to offer Ghanaians, as they have shown over the previous eight years. The fact that any intelligent person could say such a thing is astonishing, but he said it because that’s what the NPP as a political party stands for.
The NDC was leading Ghana in the right direction until Mahama was defeated in 2016 because of the lies, dishonesty, and tribalism of the NPP. The people haven’t yet forgotten the tragedies they endured during the eight grueling and depressing years of the NPP, and now that Mahama is back in office and meticulously rebuilding the nation, Ghanaians will not make another mistake to hand over power to the NPP because they have demonstrated they will not fight corruption neither today nor in the future.
