President John Dramani Mahama brought not only policy but also good humour to the launch of the No Fees Stress Policy in Koforidua on Friday, July 4, 2025, when he gifted cash to spoken word performers in a spontaneous show of appreciation.

As he handed over the money, the President was captured saying, “This is cedi, not dollar,” sparking loud cheers and laughter from the crowd.

The light-hearted moment quickly became the highlight of the day, with many seeing it as a subtle, playful jab at critics amid recent chatter over a controversial cash gift involving the Ghana Gold Board CEO [Sammy Gyamfi] and a well-known evangelist [Nana Agradaa].

The president’s gesture was warmly received as a sign of support for young creatives who added vibrancy to the event.

Beyond the humour, the occasion marked the official rollout of the ‘No Fees Stress’ Policy, which is a major campaign promise from John Mahama’s 2024 presidential bid.

The policy is designed to eliminate financial barriers for first-year students in public tertiary institutions, offering relief to many struggling families.

The initiative forms a key pillar of the President’s ‘Reset Ghana’ agenda, which aims to empower young people and lighten the financial load on vulnerable households.
