The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, on Tuesday chaired the first statutory meeting of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) for the year 2025, with a call for strengthened collaboration and shared purpose in delivering development across the region.

The meeting convened Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), Presiding Members, Coordinating Directors, Heads of Government Institutions, representatives of the Regional House of Chiefs, development partners, and other key stakeholders.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Gunu reiterated the region’s collective vision to uphold peace and stability, enhance the capacity of local government structures, and deepen intersectoral cooperation.

He underscored that these efforts align with President John Mahama’s national agenda of “Resetting Ghana for Jobs, Accountability, and Prosperity.”

The session featured comprehensive sectoral updates spanning security, agriculture, the economy, infrastructure, water and sanitation, disaster management, and education. Special attention was given to public health and economic planning.

Participants received a briefing from Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor of the Ghana Health Service on the region’s preparedness to manage Mpox. Additionally, Mr. Felix Adom Boateng, the Regional Economic Planning Officer, delivered a presentation outlining stakeholder roles in the formulation and implementation of the 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plan.

The open forum segment proved to be particularly productive, as stakeholders shared insights, proposed practical solutions, and identified priority areas for intervention.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the spirited engagement and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance and results-driven leadership.

“I am deeply encouraged by the dedication and unity demonstrated by all present,” Mr. Gunu stated. “Together, with focus and determination, we can steer the Volta Region towards sustained progress and prosperity for all.”

The meeting concluded with a renewed call for coordinated efforts and strategic partnerships to advance development goals and improve the quality of life for residents across the region.
