Ajumako NPP grassroot members endorse Bryan Acheampong for 2028 flagbearership

More than 300 current and former polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency have declared their support for Dr. Bryan Acheampong as the party’s most suitable presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

Gathering under the name Ajumako Chapter of the United Grassroots Club for Bryan Acheampong, the group held a press conference on Wednesday, urging delegates, especially in the Central Region, to put party unity above factional loyalties.

Addressing the media, Chapter Leader Patrick Arthur painted a picture of a party at a critical juncture. “The NPP is at a crossroads,” he said. “To win power in 2028, we must rally behind a candidate who can unify the party and move it forward. That candidate is Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong.”

Arthur said their endorsement reflects a wider national sentiment among grassroots operatives, referencing a reported consensus among over 40,648 polling station executives and 6,272 electoral area coordinators across the country. He called on party leadership to listen to the grassroots and “respect their voice.”

The group also expressed concern over mounting divisions within the NPP, particularly between supporters of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong. Arthur described the tension between the two camps as toxic and detrimental to party cohesion.

Drawing a parallel from scripture, he quoted 1 Corinthians 3:4, comparing the situation in the NPP to the early Christian church in Corinth, where followers were split over different leaders. “We must move beyond camps and power blocs. Unity must prevail,” he said.

According to the group, the rivalry between Bawumia and Agyapong is even beginning to fracture interfaith harmony, with some supporters aligning themselves along religious lines — a development the group described as “deeply worrying.”

The United Grassroots Club believes Dr. Bryan Acheampong has the right temperament, organisational acumen, and unifying appeal to rebuild bridges within the NPP and give the party a fighting chance in 2028. “We have to end the internal battles and focus on healing. Bryan Acheampong is the bridge we need,” Arthur said.

The group ended its address with a direct appeal to party leadership: “The NPP must choose unity over division. And unity, today, looks like Dr. Bryan Acheampong.”
